Is it possible to remove cigarette smoke odor from a mattress?

Written by admin on February 13, 2010 – 9:58 pm -

I have the opportunity to buy a mattress set for a wonderful price, but the current owners smoked in bed. I have a non-smoking household and do not care for smoke odor. Will it be possible to remove the odor? If so, how can it be done and how long does it take?

Seriously, i wouldnt bother with it. It is really hard to get smoke from anything…and coud be $$ to do it. Keep searching for a mattress sale somewhere….you’ll be so much happier with it!!!!!

It is hard to get the smell out, but possible. My mother got a brand new mattress from a friend who smoked. The thing reeked! What my mom did was keep it outside for a while (at least a week) and Febreezed it everyday. It took care of most of the smell. Good luck!

Dust the whole mattress with baking soda, leave it for a couple of hours, then vacuum it off–voila–smoke free mattress.

I was a smoker (I quit a few months back) but not in bed. But febreeze seemed to work to get smells out for most everywhere I smoked including my car, but I am not sure if it would work on an entire mattress but its worth a shot. Good luck!
