How do you get smelly scents out of clothes?

Written by admin on March 4, 2010 – 12:18 am -

Like my mom cooks smelly food and the scent gets all in my wardrobe and all my clothes smell like whatever she cooked. How can i prevent this and keep them fresh without rewashing my entire wardrobe everytime she cooks smelly food.

I’d tell your mom to take a cooking class. Seriously there’s ways to cook without stinking up the whole house.

Make sure your clothes are away from the cooking area… Close your bedroom door, close your closets and drawers… You may also want to open up a box of baking soda and set it in your room, it will absorb the odor….

Try Febreeze – I don’t know how it works, but I’ve used it on my couches and stuff to help clear the air with the pet smells and it works.
My hubby uses it on his Navy coat when he comes back from a flight, too.
Perhas you can keep a bottle in your room and then open the closet and spray??? (wait a couple hours after dinner, for the smell to work it’s way through the house)
You may also want to look into the hood or vent over the stovetop. Perhaps it is not vented outside. They REALLY make a difference when they aren’t vented outside!

Get one of those bags filled with flowers or something and put it in your closet (you may have to make or get a few). I used to have one. (It’s like a little canvas bag filled with flower petals or whatever and it smells really good, you could probably make your own.) This way all your clothes will smell like the scents in the bag. If it still happens, close your door when she makes the food and put a towel under it so the scent can’t get into your room.

If you mean the clothes you are wearing while she is cooking, get FeBreze washing detergant (it is sometimes added into Tide).

Hope I was of help and that the food she makes is good!

Hmm…perhaps Febreeze? Or try different detergents (like Gain) to have good smelling clothes. Maybe you could put different fragrance samples in your drawers or closet. Also, open your windows (unless it’s freezing out) to let the cooking smell waft out.

    (:

febreeze or baking soda. i think febreeze works the best though. they also have bags you can put the clothes in and it takes all the air out, though its probably a very big hassle putting them in the bags, taking them out, and them sealing it again. Good luck

Put a bowl of vinegar on the counter. It’ll absorb the odors. Or try a box of baking soda. Like you do for the fridge. Maybe Mom ought to turn on the exhaust fan while she cooks.

You could try storing your clothes in a number of zippered garment bags. Hang blocks of cedar in your closet and make sure you keep the door closed. You will have to air or rewash the clothes to begin with though.

Lysol Nuetra Air is suppose to work for that kind of problem.
I use it and love it.
