All people smell when they don’t bathe often enough. The interesting thing is that sweat doesn’t smell when it first reaches your skin rather the smell comes only after bacteria or fungi on the skin’s surface break down the fat in sweat to form chemicals that smell. Most sweat glands produce sweat that contains no fat, but the sweat glands around the breasts, genitals and armpits produce sweat that contains fat. Most people prevent body odor by washing these areas frequently to reduce the number of bacteria on the skin’s surface. However, sometimes this alone doesn’t work.

The vast majority of people can prevent body odor by:

1) Bathing frequently, sometimes more than once a day;

2) Changing underwear and socks daily, because underclothes hold all the dead sking and residue that bacteria love;

3) Using deodorants/anti perspirants that contain low levels of bacteria-killing metals such as aluminum, zinc or zirconium; and

4) Using powder under the armpits and groin to keep the skin dry, which prevents bacteria from growing.

If you do all of these things and still have an odor, something is wrong and you should consult a proper physician. The most common cause of unusual body odor is a skin infection. An ammonia odor is caused by infection with Helicobacter, the bacteria that causes stomach ulcers, or by eating too much protein if your liver can’t break it down fast enough. Ask your physician to draw a blood test for helicobacter. If it is positive, you can be cured with a normal course of antibiotics. If it is negative, you may need to eat less meat, fish, chicken and dairy products to give your liver time to break down the substances. When you take in more protein than your body can use immediately, your body strips ammonia from protein to make you smell like ammonia.

A fishy odor is caused by taking choline supplements, by a hereditary condition called trimethylaminuria that requires avoiding fish and other dietary sources of choline, or by a vaginal infection caused by a bacteria called Gardnerella. People who have damaged livers can also develop body odor that smells like fish. Damage to the liver can destroy the chemical that breaks down choline. When in doubt, check with you doctor!

How can I clean it and get the odors out?

Is there a way to do this withoug renting any equipment?

I took it outside and tried to clean it with a hose and some soap… wich made me feel better, but I can still smell a yucky wet dog odor.

What should I do..?

Its a really nice rug aside from the odor… with no strange foreign objects caught in the nap or anything like that!

It is clear that because you are here you may have a vaginal odour that is bothering you, or heaven forbid someone else. Normally as a rule a genital smell shouldn`t affect them around you, however if it does then the vaginal odour needs to be checked out by your GP. We are all aware that the smell of “pubic hair cling on stale pee” is unpleasant, but if you know your genitals are thoroughly clean and the smell “not” like urine, then the cause may need medication instead of warm water and soap. Yes girls it`s an embarrassing problem, I agree, and because I too am a girl understand your reason for rosy cheeks, nonetheless it is a health issue and needs treating. Go along to your local clinic and face up to your problem, or better still have your doctor face up to it instead.

We women were born and blessed with a lot of things in life connected to our bodies all of which seen as natural, but sadly some of life`s natural`s just isn`t fair. Natural means acceptance where we have no choice, but nevertheless we have the unnatural, which means something is not right and needs correcting. Vaginal odors are natural, but depending on the strength and of what the actual smell is about, is all the more reason to suspect the unnatural. Although the vagina itself is an odorless organ, every woman has a vaginal odour brought about by something or other, so we accept this; however what we do not have to accept is the unpleasantness of a specific odour.

You have to look after the vagina in respect of cleanliness. Poor hygiene is an issue looked into primarily as to being the cause. Well most bacteria, parasites or yeasts inside the vagina will usually generate odors through waste or by product therefore causing characteristic smells. One smell more often asked about the cause of, is, the fishy smell. And the regular answer is nearly always answered back with “bacterial vaginosis.” Bacterial vaginosis is a vaginal infection. Most bad vaginal odors are nearly always connected to infection. A smelly vagina can happen because of many things, and chemicals being one of those. The vagina is self cleaning so needs nothing more than a little mild soap and warm water to freshen it up.

Particular bathroom toiletries contain chemicals and if in contact with the vulva it can strip it of its natural oils leaving it dry and irritated and also prone to infection (yeast.) Chemicals can potentially slip into the urethra causing urinary tract infections. Certain chemicals can upset the natural PH of the vagina which causes an overgrowth of anaerobic bacteria, genital mycoplasmas, and gardnerella vaginalis, with reduced or absent lactobacilli. Other signs to say something`s wrong are if there is change in your normal vaginal discharge such as color, smell and consistency. If bacterial growth unsettles this causes bacterial vaginosis, symptoms of which include a bad

‘fishy’ smell and excessive discharge. Vaginal pain when peeing (urinating) should always be checked out for fear infection is the cause

Most dog owners will have occasional dog odor and will need to have some tricks for quick cleanup. The key to a home that people want to visit vs. having a home that “smells of dog” is knowing what to do to both clean up the smell and to prevent the smell.

I want to preface this with the fact that I have four dogs in my home. Now I know this sounds like a lot. However, I want you to know that I also get compliments on how my house smells. The first thing people say is wow your house smells good. They truly are shocked. They all naturally assume my house will smell bad. Or they see my dogs and are shocked that I have dogs. (These are the rare few that come over or my emergency child-care and are unaware of the dogs until afterwards.)

Supplies:
Let’s talk about some basic supplies all dog owners should have.
•    You need to have poop bags to pick up waste not only for walks but also in your own backyard. Scented is nice but not necessary.
•    Baking Soda
•    Large Quantities of Salt to spread on accidents
•    Vinegar
•    Gloves
•    Grooming Tools (I prefer rubber brushes but a brush is absolutely necessary.)
•    Doggy cologne for emergency situations

Prevention:
Preventing dog odor is the best tool in your arsenal in dog odor removal. Brushing your dog everyday is the best thing you can do. I hear people give their dogs a bath once a week. I could not imagine doing this with four dogs. I give my dogs a bath twice a year and trust me they smell great. However, I brush them once a night and while watching TV. My rubber brush removes the dirt and keeps them smelling great. Then in emergencies after they have just gotten into something and someone is coming over, out comes the doggy cologne.

The other great prevention tool is the doggy bag. Nothing can funk up a house more than a backyard full of poop. Pick it up as they go or at least every day. Dogs get into and so do you. It reeks, so pick it up! You need the bag to prevent your house from smelling as well. Tie that sucker up tight.

Dog Odor Removal
When your dog does have an accident, you will need to remove it quick. House broken dogs won’t have accidents unless they are sick but they do get sick. Take sick dogs to the vet and clean up the mess.

Carpet:
After soaking as much up as you can with a towel, spread baking soda the spot and scrub it in to absorb more odors, and then vacuum. Spread salt liberally to soak up any remaining urine, let sit before vacuuming.

Hard Surface:
Check to make sure it does not discolor the surface first. Mix together three parts vinegar and one part water and scrub the surface to eliminate odor. Then liberally flush the area with water. You may want to with dish soap and water afterward to eliminate any vinegar smell.
